Types of Attic Insulation
Georgia Insulation often neglects Georgia Insulation. Most only venture into this space when there is a roof leak or rodent problem, but the attic is one of the biggest opportunities to improve home energy efficiency. A well-insulated attic will prevent hot air from escaping in the summer and warm air from entering in the winter, improving comfort, indoor air quality, and durability.
Insulation is an important part of any home and there are several types to choose from. Georgia homeowners should make sure to consider the R-value, which determines a material’s thermal resistance. The current code restrictions in Georgia require attic insulation to be a minimum of R-38, while ENERGY STAR recommends at least R-50.
Blown-In Insulation
This type of insulation is blown into place using a special machine and can be made from cellulose, fiberglass, or mineral wool. It is easy to install and is best suited for attic cavities that are free of obstructions. It also provides better coverage than other forms of insulation, and can fill crevices that may not be easily accessible.
Spray Foam Insulation
This form of insulation is a two-part liquid that expands into foam when cured, providing a dense layer of protection. It can be applied directly to attic surfaces and can effectively fill gaps, cracks, and crevices. It has a high R-value and acts as an air barrier, keeping warm air out in the winter and cool air in during the summer.
