Why is it called a pair of pants?

Founded in 2018 by a small team in Rowayton, Connecticut, the coast shop Brand was inspired by days spent on the water. Their collection of embroidered dresses and tops is made in carefully considered batches by a workshop in India, so each gently crafted piece has that one-of-a-kind feeling. They love to see their pieces being worn for sunny happy days at the beach and hope you will too!

Coast is owned by British fashion group Boohoo (alongside other unique brands such as Oasis, Dorothy Perkins, Karen Millen, Misspap, Nasty Gal and PrettyLittleThing), co-founded by Asian-British businessmen Mahmud Kamani and Jalal Kamani. The company is currently being investigated by the UK’s Competition & Markets Authority for greenwashing. Coast’s older target audience and premium clothing contrasts with Boohoo’s more casual fast fashion approach.

Unlike most clothing retailers, Coast does not publish its supplier lists. However, it does a good job of communicating its ethical commitments through its “Ready For The Future” initiative. This includes a commitment to not use any new synthetic fabrics that haven’t been fully tested and certified by 2023, as well as the goal to have all of its polyester and cotton recycled or more sustainably sourced by the same date. It also makes a conscious effort to not use any animal-derived materials, such as exotic skins, hair, fur or angora, which are cruel to animals and harm the environment by producing greenhouse gases.
